Install Weave

The Weave CLI 0.1.0 for macOS, Linux and Windows. Free for non-commercial use.

One-line install

The installer picks the right build for your machine, verifies its SHA-256 checksum and installs weave and weave-watcher. It never asks for administrator rights.

macOS and Linux

$ curl -fsSL https://weave-cli.com/install.sh | sh

Installs to ~/.local/bin (set WEAVE_INSTALL_DIR to change it) and tells you if that directory is not on your PATH. Set WEAVE_VERSION to install a specific version. You can read the script first.

Windows (PowerShell)

$ irm https://weave-cli.com/install.ps1 | iex

Installs to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\weave (or WEAVE_INSTALL_DIR) and adds it to your user PATH; open a new terminal afterwards. WEAVE_VERSION works here too. On Windows on Arm the x86_64 build runs under emulation. Read the script.

Check the install:

weave --version            # weave 0.1.0
weave-watcher --version    # weave-watcher 0.1.0

macOS: the binaries are not yet signed or notarized. The install script avoids the Gatekeeper quarantine prompt. If you download the archive in a browser, clear the quarantine flag after extracting:

xattr -d com.apple.quarantine weave weave-watcher

There are no package-manager packages (Homebrew, apt, winget, crates.io) yet.

Connect to Weave

The hosted Weave service keeps your team's workstreams, runs the weave check, and handles owners, suggestions and semantic search. There is nothing else to install: the CLI logs in at www.weave.directory and connects to https://api.weave.directory by default.

  1. Sign in at www.weave.directory, create a Personal Access Token under Settings → Access Tokens, then log in and paste it at the Enter your Personal Access Token prompt. It is saved to ~/.weave/config.json.

    weave login
  2. In your project, connect it to Weave. weave init asks where workstreams should live (Connect to a Weave server (URL), defaulting to https://api.weave.directory, or Local only) and offers to wire AI agents (Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Cursor, Codex) to weave mcp. If your account can access more than one repository, name it with a remote first (this needs .weave/, so initialize locally before):

    cd my-project
    weave init
    # or, without prompts:
    weave init --local
    weave remote add origin https://www.weave.directory/<org>/<repo>
    weave init --server https://api.weave.directory

Prefer to stay offline? weave init --local keeps workstreams on your device. See the hosted service page for how repositories are named, and configuration if an older config points the CLI elsewhere.
